Somewhere to stay:  5 low price, high ranked Backpacker Hostels in Hong Kong

Have I mentioned how expensive Hong Kong is to a backpacker like me? If I haven’t, listen, Hong Kong is very expensive! Especially the accommodation. So if you are traveling on budget like me,

you might want to stay in a hostel rather than a hotel, renting a dorm bed instead of a room, but of course with a nice environment. That’s why you are reading this, because I am going to present you all some budget hostels, low price with good reviews!

NOTE:

  1. Price varies according to season and holidays. I recommend going to HK during low season and weekdays, while we will be able to avoid crowd, the price could go REALLY LOW.
  2. If you are expecting BIG and SUPER CLEAN room, you are reading the wrong material. First it is hard to find a spacious room in HK. All of the rooms in HK are basically small. Secondly, these are all budget hostels, don’t expect 5 stars services. (I understand “Dirty” is definitely unbearable, I have filtered out those with super bad reviews 😀 )
  • Y Loft (Youth Square)

Starts with my personal favorite! The rooms are comparatively spacious to the others and clean, anyway the hallway is a bit rundown. The environment is quiet and the location is very convenient for the airport bus and near to the MTR station.

  • Yesinn Causeway Bay

The hostel is located at the heart of causeway bay area. There is an alley goes straight to the Times Square.

The service of this hostel is great, there is common room where you can meet the other guests, computer & printer, pantry with free coffee, tea, and drink water. The bathroom is attached to the dorm room, and cleaned every day.  Hot water and AC, even locker with lock for each bed. Would be a good place for such a reasonable price!

  • Apple Hostel

This hostel is located in the center of Tsim Sha Tsui, one of the busiest cities in HK. You can find convenience store and a drug store within 30 sec walk, and several bus stops and exits of MTR right in front of the building.1

The Apple Hostel is a building named Chungking Mansion, you might need to get mentally prepared for the hygiene and elevator queuing condition at the ground floor, but the rooms are clean and equipped with basic amenities. Room has a single bed with enough space for your luggage and own bathroom, also a small TV and water heater.

The hostel is located in Mongkok. Small room with private bathroom is available here. Walking distance to Ladies Market, Sneaker Street, Langham Place, and very close to MTR and buses. The building might look old, but the rooms are considered well kept.

The hostel is located at a very convenient spot, which is 30 seconds away from the Times Square, next to MTR and Dingding Tram. The room is clean, even though the building might be a bit spooky and old but the room itself is great.
